Having spent well over a year struggling with a recurring back problem, and spending that long taking anti-inflammatories and other pain medication, my stomach was starting to feel the stress of these medications. Not to mention they only seemed to temporarily mask the problem for a short time. I was also having to see an osteopath once every four weeks when the pain got too much.
I thought there had to be something out there that was better for my body.
After my consultation with you.You made me a herbal remedy suited to my body and the problems I was having with it.
WOW! I'm sure it was only a matter of days and I felt amazing! A week later and I was a ball of energy and very excited! And not sore. I was pain free.
This all took place a good 6 or 7 months ago and I have not had to take an anti-inflammatory since, nor have I been back to the osteopath in that time.
I do not need my remedy every day, although I do take it now and then if I have over done things.
The effects it has had on my body and mind have been something else, restoring a sense of calm and I can feel how relaxed my muscles are now on a daily basis.
Your herbal medicines have helped me when I really thought constant back pain and anti-inflammatories were just going to be part of my life.

Jasmin Sturm, the owner of the Warkworth Natural Health Store is a naturopath and medical herbalist. She is a current member of the New Zealand Society of Naturopaths (www.naturopath.org.nz) and attends regular seminars on the latest research in natural health. Her most recent seminars were on the 'management of chronic pain' and 'addressing adrenal stress'.
Naturopathy is a holistic treatment approach and at its core is the concept of treating the whole person (mental, emotional and physical) and working with the cause or root of the health issue rather than just the symptoms. (Of course symptoms will also be addressed with a treatment plan).
Herbal medicine involves the formulation of a specific herbal tonic for an individual person designed to address their specific health issues. Teas and infusions may also be prescribed.
What sorts of things can a naturopath/medical herbalist treat?
Natural health practitioners treat the whole person and as such – we can work with most health issues. If you are on some prescription medications we may not be able to prescribe some herbal or vitamin supplements.

What is involved?
A first consultation involves an in-depth look at your presenting health problems and medical history as well as your diet and lifestyle. Basic iridology is considered. It generally takes 1 ¼ hours.A questionnaire may be given to you to complete prior to the consultation.
Jasmin uses a range of treatment methods including dietary modification, Bach flowers, herbal formulae, vitamin and/or mineral supplementation, homeopathy and Bowen therapy. She will also refer you to other health professionals when necessary.
A follow up consultation usually happens within 2 - 4 weeks and allows Jasmin to plot your progress, answer any questions and modify your treatment plan as necessary.
Adults:
- Initial consultation * (allow 1 ¼ hours) $ 90
- A detailed lifestyle plan will be prepared for you with suggested supplements or herbs to take.
- It will be emailed or posted to you within 3- 4 days and Jasmin will call you to answer any questions.
- Follow up consultation (allow approximately 30 minutes) $40
- For Acute and simple complaints 20 minute consultation $25
Children:
- Initial consultation with free follow-up 45 mins $40
Testing:
- (HTMA) Hair tissue mineral analysis (basic) $170
- (HTMA) Hair tissue mineral analysis (interpretive) $210
- Allergy testing via a hair sample $130. (This will identify any food or environmental allergens or intolerances). Allow four weeks for results. Jasmin will explain the results with you in a 10 minute consultation.
- Vitamin and mineral testing via hair analysis is also available.
* Cost of supplements or herbal formula is not included in the consultation fee.
